Hey Victory Family,
Well, we are proud to announce that we just had tryouts for the
Combat Athlete Program and Comp Team and we have 20 new members that made it into the program.
It was one of the toughest try outs to date!
The whole team is excited about the talent that we have in the program and what it will produce.
Here is a shot of the New Combat Athletes. You can click on it to enlarge the photo and print it.
We NEED your Help!
We are in the process of renaming the Comp Team!
But, we wanted to get your involvement on choosing the right name to represent the academy.
We have it narrowed down to 3.
Team Dion Riccardo, The Tribe, The Pride (lions children are called a Pride).
Please comment below to which one you like the best and if you have any other suggestions. We really need your help on this one and would like to get at least 50 votes. (it will take you 2 minutes to comment).
Thank you!
Vitamins For the Mind....From Dion Riccardo
"Age does not diminish the extreme
disappointment of having a scoop of
ice cream fall from the cone."
that knows me knows I hate sweets) and I saw something that got me journaling.
There is an innate
awkwardness to being human. With each decision we make, there is the
potential for self-doubt and it is this-self doubt that forms the root
of insecurity—a complex emotion that is a mix of equal parts
inadequacy, isolation, fear, and hopelessness. Yet these feelings of
insecurity that prevent us from fulfilling our potential by inducing us
to abide by arbitrary self-limitations are nothing more than erroneous
perceptions. We feel unconfident and unsure of ourselves because we
judge ourselves to be so. Banishing insecurity is often simply a matter
of challenging ourselves in order to prove that we are indeed
intelligent and able.
When we feel insecure, we not only
perceive ourselves as incapable of meeting life’s challenges but also
fraudulent and unworthy of true happiness. We move through life plagued
by a sense that others have judged us and found that we are lacking. As
a result, we are robbed of our personal power and rendered unable to
feel positive about the choices we make. Everyone feels insecure from
time to time because each of us is born into the world with unique
strengths. If you should find yourself with feelings of insecurity,
however, endeavor to understand its source. Perhaps you were repeatedly
berated as a child or seldom receive positive reinforcement in the
present. A tendency to withdraw from risk or uncomfortable situations
can amplify feelings of insecurity. When you have pinpointed the origin
of your insecurity, focus on your abilities. The more you utilize your
personal power—by taking risks, boldly facing challenges, and acting
decisively—the stronger it will grow.
Remember that insecurity
is not objective. Rather, it is an emotional interpretation of your
value unconsciously based on doubt, shame, and fear. As you overcome
those underlying emotions through courageous action and knowing your true value, you’ll discover that you are capable of achieving more than
you ever thought possible.

I like tribe too. A pride is any group of lions though, not just cubs.

I like The Tribe

There is already a Team Pride in Kentucky and several versions of the Tribe. Warrior Tribe, Primal Tribe etc. Wouldn't you want a more unique name to avoid confusion?

I just wanted to comment about the interview with John. I'm so happy to see that John is the student of the month. I've known him basically since he started here and he is truely one of the best people to train with. He is always very positive and really pushes him to the max. Even if you're tired and want to quit, seeing John's enthusiam for the class makes you push yourself even harder. Thanks for being a great training partner, John. Congrats!

I like (1)Team Dion Riccardo (2)The Pride (3)The Tribe
The pride and tribe seem like names that are used a lot.
Team COALITION
Coalition: a combination or alliance
2. A union into one body or mass; fusion.
3."the growing together of parts,"
This came to my mind when I thought of the team. Just throwing it our there....
Its definition is awesome and it would look great across the back or front of a shirt in fancy lettering!!

I also like team Dion Riccardo or team Riccardo. There is a team called Coalition fight team but I think you'd run into that sort of problem with about any word you come up with. From Coalition I jumped to "Synergy" googled fight team synergy and sure enough...
So, team Riccardo or just the Victory fight team after the school name are what I like the most.

Team Dion Riccardo. That's who we represent and that's who guides us. That should be the name. That's what i think. congrats to all the new comb team members!!
God Bless-

Victory Martial Arts has been around long before Spike TV put on TUF causing MMA in this country to explode. It was the result of one man who decided if he put his faith in God he could do what he loved for a living. He started in a garage (before my time)then moved to a storefront the took over the store front next door, now there are two schools and probably hundreds of students. He brought in people for seminars before they were household names, Rickson Gracie and Erik Paulson come to mind. He is a rare combination of a great marial artist and a great teacher. Every instructor and student is influenced by him directly or indirectly. So lets put his name on the team, I think he has earned it.
The choice seems clear.
Put me down as another vote for
Team Dion Riccardo.

i like "the Tribe" i love that it symbolizes a group of people together." i believe that if you name it "team Dion Riccardo", it would include everyone in the school, after all we are all Team Dion Riccardo, comp team or regular students.
or we could go "the Victory tribe"

Matt - I really appreciate your kind words.

Team Dion Riccado ....

Team Dion Riccardo for all the reasons listed above. His unique creed and vision is what inspires me and everyone who meets him. I'm proud to train at his school and using his name would be a great way to reflect that pride and the unity of the team. Even though all the team members have different strengths and styles, they're unified and shaped by Mr. Riccardo's charism and vision. The name would reflect that. - Kim Cozzi

Team Dion Riccardo is awesome

Congrats John and keep up the good work.
I would choose Team Riccardo because no one has that name and we definately owe it to him. I believe I read it on the blog that this is something he envisioned many years ago when he first started mixed martial arts, Lets not take that away. Peace! GO TEAM DION RICCARDO

I Like How The Tribe Sounds.
Posted by: Jerrell Morris | June 29, 2009 at 12:30 PM
But Also To Add On Once You Think About It Team Dion Riccardo Sounds Great Too, But The Pride Sounds A Little Dull.
Posted by: Jerrell Morris | June 29, 2009 at 12:32 PM
I like Team Dion Riccardo. The Tribe reminds me of the Cleveland Indians and since Im a Sox fan there is no way I can vote for that, and the Pride just doesnt have enough "pop" for me.
